Update on Charlotte

So, last time I wrote about our girl, her Doctor put her on that icky formula for two weeks with the hopes of clearing up her issue. Well, the first week was ROUGH! Charlotte did not like the formula, she had a hard time taking it. She would cry and nuzzle up to me and try and nurse. So, I cheated. A lot. I continued to nurse her off and on for a few days. Quitting cold turkey seemed so mean! So, after I resolved to stop cheating, I started giving her the formula. Things definitely improved. No more visible blood. So, I sent in her stool sample and it did come back negative. YAY! So, during the first week on the formula I was majorly cheating on my no milk, no soy diet. It was hard to continue with it when I knew I couldn't nurse her anyway. I think I was a little too excited to be having dairy again and apparently, consumed too much. I had another attack of gall stones, while we were on vacation with the Dobbertin family! It was NOT good. Anyway, the second week she was on the formula, I went back on my diet and was SUPER strict about it. I talked with a nutritionist as well and she really encouraged me to stick with the diet and go back to nursing her. So, after the two weeks were up, I started nursing her again. I am VERY happy to report that there has been NO visible blood in her stool. After a week of nursing her I sent in another sample and it came back negative as well! I could not be more thrilled. I am so happy that I can continue to give Charlotte the best and exactly what she needs! Thank you so much for your prayers and support!

DORKS!

Oh man! Ryan and I are such dorks. Today is our 8th anniversary and we both forgot! I got a message from Ryan's mom on Facebook saying "Happy Anniversary". At least I think Ryan forgot. We talked this morning, and then he called me from work and he didn't say anything. It was another big day for him at work (meeting some more big wigs) and I think we have both been thinking about that, instead. I knew it was coming, I just didn't realize that today was the day!

I really can't believe it's been eight years! I definitely over married. God blessed me beyond all measure by giving me Ryan. He has been the best thing for me and the perfect man to lead our family.

Emotional Mommy on the Loose!

Well, Charlotte is six months old now! Where does all that time go? Her check up was this past Friday. She weighed in at 15 lbs 10 oz. I can't remember what percentile she is in. She is doing all the things every 6 month old should do. She appears to be the picture of health.
However, she is still having her "Milk Sensitivity" issue, which brings us to the reason for my crazy emotions. Apparently, my exclusion diet is not working. She is still continuing to have blood in her stool. The sad part is that the remedy is to just stop nursing. It doesn't seem to make sense to me. They put her on this NASTY formula called Nutramigen. It's hypo-allergenic and it costs A LOT! She does NOT like it. I can't get her to take more that four ounces at a time and it takes her about 30 minutes to do that. When she was nursing she would take at least six ounces in about 10 min. flat. It is so hard when she looks at me so sad and trys to nuzzle up to me to nurse. It's horrible because I know I have it, I just can't give it to her. So, the plan is to give her the yucky formula for two weeks and then they will take a stool sample and see if the blood is gone. I am continuing to pump just in case the Nutramigen does not work. I am being even more exclusive in my diet, now cutting out all soy, egg, corn, peanuts, shellfish and beef. There really isn't much for me to eat, but I am NOT wavering. Call me crazy, but nursing Charlotte is WAY to important to me. I can give up my ice cream, coke, chocolate and EVEN COFFEE for her. At the end of the two weeks, even if there is no blood, I am going to try to go back to nursing her for a few days and see if my exclusion diet is working. If the blood returns, we will go to a GI specialist and see what they think. It just doesn't make sense to me to give up nursing when my immunity is the best thing for her "allergies". Weird, huh? Well, it's been an emotional couple of days for me. At first when they put her on the formula I thought "woo hoo! bring on the food!" Now, I am more resolved than EVER to keep up with this crazy diet and give my baby girl what she needs!
I just love this picture of her - she is getting HUGE!
