What do you feed your toddler (or yourself)? I am getting tired of feeding Gavin the same things, and I think that he is getting tired of it too. I need some more healthy (key word) snacks and meal ideas so lay 'em on me! Thanks everyone!
pudding, cheese and crackers (seperate or the sandwich crackers you buy), Animal crakers, pretzel sticks, fruit muffins, freeze pops, of course - apples, carrots. . . hope those are good snack ideas for you.
I don't know what you typically give Gavin, but we give Robbie grilled cheese sandwiches and throw a slice of turkey or ham in it while we make it...kinda mixes things up a bit...also when he gets sick of fruit we give him different fruit flavored yogurt. Ya know, something different besides banana or strawberry, like mango, papaya, peach, etc. Fruit snacks are always fun, and Robbie LOVES chips and salsa! It makes him feel like a grown up. :) If I think of anything else I'll leave another comment.
My name is Rachel Feehan and I currently reside in Vermont soon moving to Knoxville, TN. I found your blog via Jenny Muth's and have stopped by a couple of times. I hope that you don't mind, you are welcome to "meet" us if you want to. Nutrition is near and dear to my heart although I sometimes lack motivation to do well with it. Lately, my 18 1/2 month old son has discovered smoothies and LOVES them. I had a coupon for Stoneyfield Farms smoothies and I purchased them for him. They are pricey so I thought that by mixing milk and a yogurt in his cup, it would work just as well. He really enjoys them. Also, I will cut up dried apricots and prunes, serve him raisins, craisins or dried blueberries. I also found out that he likes guacomole and refried beans if I call them "sauce". Hmmm......I made some apple bran muffins that even my picky, non-healthy husband enjoys. Frozen berries are a healthy alternative during the winter months when fresh are pricey. Anyway you can sneak in fiber is a good way to keep their system in working order. Sometimes you just need fresh ideas. I hope that this gives you some thoughts. BTW - you have one adorable son. Way too cute!
Hey Suzanne! I was thinking about healthy snacks and remembered that my mom used to make little cars for Nate & I to snack on - with celery stuffed with peanut butter (or cream cheese) and little raisin "people" She would even make wheels out of carrot slices and stick them on the celery car with toothpics. Not sure if Gavin is old enough to eat celery, but we sure loved the occasional "play with food" snacks. I used to make cheese and chicken quesadillas for the kids I babysat - if you use whole wheat tortillas it's a little healthier. My friend uses pintos and cheese in quesadillas and her girls eat them up. Another friend uses cookie cutters to cut sandwiches in fun shapes on "special days" (which are random, mom-made special days) and puts fruit and cheese on toothpicks to make kabobs that her kids eat like crazy! There are also some pretty cute and healthier "fun snacks" at AllRecipes.com or the Kraft Food & Family site. WHEW sorry this is so long.
Oh my goodness - you have got it together! What a great system you have. I may just have to "steal" a few ideas of yours, like that hangers - how creative. Thank you for your tips. Any other ideas are more than welcome. I would imagine that your household runs smoothly and efficiently because you know what to expect everyday. The less time spent in hunting for items, the more time you have to give to your family. Have a wonderful day - I hope that you are enjoying some mild weather wherever you are:). Take care, Rachel
